Where’s Waldo’s Website?

Where’s Waldo’s Website?

History In 1986, Handford was asked by his art director at Walker Books to draw a character with peculiar features so that his pictures of crowds had a focal point. After much thinking, he came up with the idea of “Wally”, a world traveller and time travel aficionado who always dresses in red and white.[2] Sometimes it would take him up to eight weeks to draw a two-page sketch of the elusive Wally and the characters surrounding him. Characters Wally,…

Camping in Scotland

Camping in Scotland

I’ve been meaning to get into updating my blog more often (again), and I thought this would be a good update.   I went wild camping a couple of times in June, both times in Scotland. The first place we went to was near Ben Lomond, and although the location was great (very rural, yet shops/local village only 8 miles away), it was a four and a half hour drive to get there from Newcastle. We left on the Friday…

Hosting

So, I haven’t posted in 9 months apparently (this is mainly due to being busy buying/renovating a house). Just before christmas I realised that my website wasn’t working (I don’t often check it to be honest), and when I looked into this, 000webhost had disabled my hosting account due to “for violating 20%+ CPU usage limit for more than 1000 times”. It gave me the option to re-enable my account by upgrading my hosting to a paid account (which I…

Rowlands Gill

Rowlands Gill

Just a quick post on the trip me and Siân took to Rowlands Gill this bank holiday weekend! With no up and coming plans for the weekend and a forecast of almost 20 degrees heat for the Saturday and Sunday –  we decided to make the most of it and head off for a day or two of camping. As Siân is only just getting into cycling, we decided not to venture too far and as I’d already been to…

000webhost – Easiest way to update large plugins/themes

000webhost – Easiest way to update large plugins/themes

So, after using 000webhost for a while now, it becomes quite a chore to update wordpress plugins and themes if their compressed file size is over the limit that 000webhost allows. The way I had been doing it was to wait until I had quite a few to update then downloading each plugin manually and extracting it, then using filezilla to upload all the files. This might not sound like much, but it can get quite tedious if you compare…

Android

Android

I got a new phone this weekend, the LG/Google Nexus 4, and I’ve been meaning to write a blog post for a few weeks now, so I thought a good topic would be to talk about my thoughts on Android.   My first android phone was the HTC Hero (alternatively known as the G2, pictures on the right), I got this phone back in 2009 not long after it had come out and android was just starting to become a…

Update on 000webhost

Update on 000webhost

After giving them such a good review in my earlier post, I was starting to get very frustrated with the web hosting. The main reason being that whenever I came to do things in the admin panel, I would quite often get Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted     After searching round, I tried setting “WP_MEMORY_LIMIT” to 96M in the wp-config file, this appears to have done the trick, as I’ve not received the error since…

Newcastle to Holy Island

Newcastle to Holy Island

I’ve been meaning to write this blog post for a month now, and I thought I best write it before I forget the rough happenings of the trip! (I have the memory of a goldfish). In late October I’d started to read a lot of stories on www.crazyguyonabike.com and the subreddit /r/bicycletouring, and I was really getting inspired about going on a tour myself. I had a few things that I had to get before I could go though (and when I…

New Daily Plan

New Daily Plan

After reading this article: http://www.kratosguide.com/16-habits-you-should-do-every-day/ I set my self some goals that I want to accomplish on a day to day basis. One of these goals is to blog or write a journal for 15mins per day (hence writing this really). A lot of things on the list I enjoy but am just too lazy to start doing them, which is why I want to try and stick to doing as much as I can on the list! A few of the things on…

New Hosting

New Hosting

So I was sick of paying ~£22 a year for the hosting/web domain at one.com due to their lack of UK servers and terrible speed, and decided to switch hosing/domain registrar. I looked around and decided that for the amount that I use my site, it was not really worth paying anything for hosting, and this is when I decided I’d try www.000webhost.com for hosting as they provide a free service that covered my needs (couple of MySQL databases, PHP support, 1.5GB…
